Last short sleeve shirt of summer. It is too cold …

Last short sleeve shirt of summer. It is too cold to wear now, but I will put in my closet, and every time I see it, it will make me think of warmer days to come. This is Eleanor Blouse by Sew Me Something. It is trapezoidal design, which fits my pear shape perfectly. No grading! I made straight size 20. The only thing I did differently was increase depth of back dart, as I had extra fabric, and it was cheap insurance in case the bottom needed extra ease. I also added a 6th button. I think I would have been okay without the modifications. The sleeves accommodate my larger upper arms without needing adjustment. I adore the shawl collar.

I hesitate to recommend this pattern. I found the design clever and even with 6 solid years of garment making I struggled a bit. If you sign up for monthly club, you get access to video sew alongs which I suspect fill in the gaps of the written instructions included with pattern purchase, but I was not up for spending that much. The pattern offers generous sizing as it goes up to size 30, with lots of design ease.

My measurements are 46.5 inch bust, C cup, 48 waist, 58 hips.

Mitered join of bias binding – I struggle with a nice mitered join on my bias binding. I like miter join as it reduces bulk. Over years I have watched videos, read tutorials, and nothing stuck with me. My success rate was 50%. Today, i simply used my iron to crease where I wanted join, then put right sides together and stitched. Came out near perfect first try. Thought I would share. Although, I may be last one to this party, lol.

Mash up of Itch to Stitch Celeste Dress in extende…

Mash up of Itch to Stitch Celeste Dress in extended sizing, with sleeves from Anna Allen Anthea Pattern. I color blocked, with a treasured scrap of printed linen. The black is beautiful linen from Gray Line Linen in NYC. I added back yoke and pleats to break up back and make it roomier when sitting. I also dropped the arm scye about 1 inch and skipped the zipper. A perfect make for steamy fall day.
