Fine day for a picnic on Cadillac Mountain in Maine.

Got up early to pick the last of the summer peaches and some early fall apples. Beautiful morning with cool crisp air and lots of sunshine. Grateful!

Patrick’s labor of love! It is such a nice ride! It is like a time capsule, transporting you back to the 60’s and 70’s.

Mother Nature was kind and we got out to a local car show. Such a fun ride. Very comfortable. Par’s labor of live is really something.

My first homegrown Dahlia. I have just fallen in love with these flowers, the symbolism, and beauty just inspires me.

Did a whole lot of machine quilting this weekend… practicing a combination of freehand motion, bernina bsr, and ruler work. Getting better… my philosophy at this point, better done than perfect.

Not the best picture but the quilt top is done. Sandwich, quilt, bind, and label to go! So happy with it so far… it is about 75 inches square.

Took a break from sewing to make up some flower pots for the back deck. This is the only garden we will have this year. First time not having a vegetable garden in a very long time but looking forward to supporting our local farmers. Fingers crossed they last… lol.

Where to begin … When I start a quilt, I think about the recipient(s)… this helps with color and meaningful motifs. In this case, the center features a Dahlia flower which represents joy, hope, celebration, strength, … encircled by a self drafted DNA inspired border. There are mountain ranges and other hidden motifs. There is space to rest in between… Then I color my sketches and start drafting pattern pieces… all this before I ever touch the fabrics… Such an exciting start to the process.
