Mother of the groom dress “thank you”s. …

Mother of the groom dress “thank you”s. The dress is based on #stokxbirdydress with several modifications which Melinda Stokes, the designer behind Stokx pattern guided me through. The dress has the curve collar, with the puff reach sleeve with an increased flared skirt, and hi/low hem. The dress is made of lightweight linen underlined with a bemberg rayon lining, which I struggled with and would never have completed without expert advice from #brooksanncamper a superb instructor for sewing for your body, and an expert in so many construction methods. A big thank you to both of these professionals. My day was made infinitely better wearing a dress made for me and by me. I couldn’t have done it without you both!

Another party dress… still needs a finished n…

Another party dress… still needs a finished neckline and hem. Stokx’s Summer Birdy with a few tweaks. Removed center front and back seams, cut on fold. I can pull this dress on over my head. Added some flare and length to skirt. With the designer’s guidance changed the wing sleeve to more of a cape sleeve which gives me more coverage of my upper arms. Super comfortable and so great for the summer heat. Fabric is a lt weight cotton twill with a bit of stretch. Feels a bit big due to the stretch. Might take in a bit more. Lovely pockets. Truly cannot stop making this pattern. #stokxbirdydress

Mother of Groom’s dress update! Very pleased….

Mother of Groom’s dress update! Very pleased. Buttons, hem, and collar to go! 5 days left. Easy peasy! Absolutely loving this dress. Beautiful lt to med wt linen, underlined with a bemberg rayon. The dress is Stokx Summer Birdy with puff reach sleeve expansion that makes this dress so comfortable while giving me the upper arm coverage that I love! Button snafu, after ordering buttons 6 weeks before wedding, my first choice buttons will not arrive in time. Trying to find 28 3/8” matching buttons that are in stock has been a big challenge. Took 3 JoAnne Fabrics but I have a set of silver buttons. I have also tried self covered buttons but I am not happy with the color match… stay tuned and wish me luck #stokxbirdydress

Construction has begun on my mother of the groom dress. 10 days till wedding! No worries. Weeks ago, I Ordered buttons from 4 different places, 3 will not show in time. One set arrived and they are a bit too small and a dozen short. There will be 28 buttons down the front. I swapped in new type of button placket on the Stokx’s Birdy dress. No visible stitches. I lowered the V neck which requires a change to collar which I am nervous about. All pieces are underlined with Bemberg Rayon lining which is bagging down on larger skirt sections. Still don’t know how I am going to hem this beast. Decided to use reach puff sleeve instead of the curved wing sleeve. Hoping Mother Nature is kind weather wise. Don’t you just love a challenge! I do. 😝 #stokxbirdydress

Another Stokx’s Summer Birdy, in the longer maxi length, sleeveless and collarless. I started with the size 6 and graded out the bottom to my waist and hip measurements plus the recommended ease. This is an incredibly comfortable dress for the summer heat and humidity. The arm scye is unaltered and is comfortable while completely covering my bra. The fabric was cotton poplin twill dead stock on super clearance at Fabric Mart several years ago. I bought it for toile’s and I have since fallen in love with it. Sadly, this is the last of it. Finished off with 18 snaps. Happy Sewing! #stokxbirdydress #fabricmart
