Just finished this Tulpen Top. A new pattern from Stokx Patterns. Made in a drapey lightweight woven for front, and the back and sleeves are a knit. Dressy looking with casual comfort. I never cared for boat necklines due to bra straps showing, but this design offers coverage. Very comfortable as it just skims over the body. Can be sewn on machine. I did use my overlocker and cover stitch machines but they are not necessary. Very Size inclusive. I made a size 7 on top and graded to a size 11 on hips. My measurements are 46 chest, 48 waist, and 56 hips. I also added some length to make it a long sleeve. I did receive a free copy of test pattern, with no obligation.

This is not the same old tired top pattern, the Tulpen Top pattern offers a new and clever construction method for the neckline which will spice up your sewing and your wardrobe. Check it out.

October 22, 2022 my beloved Bernina B710 started its final downward slide. My local dealer did a few repairs that extended its life but the time had come to pull the plug. I know it is not a human or pet, but it was my main tool in my sewing room, and over the many years I spent so many hours using it to make so many amazing things. I cannot help but feel sad. And then with the world as it is, sadness seems to come from so many directions. They don’t make them like they used to … which applies, as it was the most basic machine of its series, just enough bells and whistles without all the extra hoopla, and they do not offer this combination anymore. It was a sizable investment which I have no regrets as it gave me so much value for my purchase. I picked up my new machine today and seem to be lacking the excitement that should come with a new purchase. At 60+ the learning curve is not as fun. So long old dear … you will be remembered fondly. #sewover50 #punkfrockers #curvysewingcollective

Serger needle confusion… I recently bought a …

Serger needle confusion… I recently bought a new serger/coverstitch combination machine. My cover stitches were not consistent. I discovered my new machine called for and worked much better with ELx705 needles, which are not the same as 130/705 needles. I found ELx705 in sizes 80 and 90, with and without CF chrome finish, and with the option of a regular universal point or an SUK medium ball point. Schmetz’s color coding is so helpful but fails to distinguish an SUK serger needle from a regular universal point serger needle, so here is a tip to help you distinguish between them. The front groove extends farther up into the color coding on an SUK serger needle. The regular serger needle’s front groove ends below the color coding. Needles are expensive but necessary and the right needle for the job is important. Typically SUK or ball point needles are recommended when sewing or serging knits. I could not verify this works for the Organ brand needles which offers both styles of serger needles but no color coding so I tend to go for Schmetz needles. Happy sewing. #pfjustthetip #punkfrockers #sewover50

I made a needle minder. Needles are not cheap and i keep bouncing between so many projects, which requires frequent needle changes. I saw these online but shipping was $$$. So my dh designed and 3D printed the tray. I made an internal bag filled with fine walnut shells from Harbor Freight. Then I designed and machine embroidered the front, and made a zippered cover for the filled bag, just in case, one layer was not enough. My needle abbreviations are Stretch, Topstitch, Overlock, Universal, Jersey, Jean, Embroidery, and Microtex. I added space for hand sewing needles too. Good bye old fashion tomatoes. Can you tell there has been 3 snow storms in 6 days and I am going a little crazy. Willing to share the 3D tray and embroidery designs if there is any interest. #sewover50 #punkfrockers #curvysewingcollective

My latest make for Pattern Review’s Round 3 Sewing Bee. The pattern is Tania by Jalie, with max waist 44″ and max hip 54″. Jalie does offer other patterns in more extended sizes. Jalie provided a complimentary copy of the pattern for this challenge. Here is the Anna Allen Athena Puffed Sleeve Top and Dress pattern, sewn size 22, only changed the center button placket for design purposes. I created the machine appliqué button hole design myself. Lovely soft linen. Changed gathers to pleats and used French seam for beautiful inside finish as well. Hidden buttons on inside also. Love this pattern, follow directions for quick and easy sew, or perfect starting point for pattern hacking. It is a tried and true pattern for me. But, sadly not drafted in extended size range, but design accommodates my pear shape. Bust 46” C cup, waist 48”, and 58” hip. #sewover50 #sewover50plus #pftnt

I self-drafted this pattern, digitized the embroidery, and made this Embroidered Linen Hoodie. I cannot stop smiling. This was inspired by a Jalie pattern which is not offered in my size range, and the sleeves are from Cashmerette’s new pattern, the Vernon shirt with full bicep option for C cup in view A. This is my entry for Round 1 in PatternReview Sewing Bee 2022 Contest. #sewover50 #sewover50plus #fatsewover50

Stokx Shirtdress in progress, this is an advance pattern with several new to me construction methods. I am truly enjoying the challenge, and incredibly excited to slip this make on. My dressform is slightly larger than me, so it should look even better on me. Being a pear shape, I made size 6 on top, and graded to 9 for hips and waist and sleeve. C cup, 46 chest, 48 waist, 57 hips. Lots of mental work to grade it but definitely doable. Princess seams are just basted for now. Love sewing again! I won this pattern. Tired of the shoulder seams and front neckline of …

Tired of the shoulder seams and front neckline of my me made tee shirts going on walk about during the day. I will be applying a forward shoulder adjustment in all future makes. But fabric is expensive, so I unpicked the upper arms, and chopped top of tee shirt off, drafted new front and back yokes pieces with forward shoulder adjustment made. Then I combined front and back yoke pieces at shoulder seam, adding a seam down center of the back yoke. Seamless shoulders, color blocking, my new favorite rehabilitated tee shirt. #sewover50plus #sewover50
