Made a 4 way garment, reversible and can be worn front to back. Hacked the Forager Pinafore by Its Sew Becca. I found the pattern on Etsy. It is more of an apron, which I heavily modified. I just love the deep V and single layer skirt which keeps garment light but still covers me. Size inclusive. Used a Robert Kaufman Sevenberry Nara Stripe Homespun, which I loved both sides. Really beefy cotton. This should be perfect for an upcoming trip! #sevenberrynarahomespun #punkfrockers #sewover50september #sewover50plus

Well, I have spent the last couple of months taking a class with Brooks Ann Camper to draft my personal skirt block. I discovered that 60+ years have taken their toll as I have both front to back and side to side asymmetry issues. I persevered and have a block I am really pleased withâ¦
I love skirts but gave up wearing them as they as spun around as I walked or the waistband would shift as I moved leaving my hem visibly crooked. This block is so comfortable and the waistband and hem stay in place without elastic! I am off to pattern a simple denim skirt from this block. So excited! Thanks to Punk Frockers for introducing me to Brooks Ann Camper. #brooksanncamper #punkfrockers
Serger needle confusion⦠I recently bought a …
Serger needle confusion⦠I recently bought a new serger/coverstitch combination machine. My cover stitches were not consistent. I discovered my new machine called for and worked much better with ELx705 needles, which are not the same as 130/705 needles. I found ELx705 in sizes 80 and 90, with and without CF chrome finish, and with the option of a regular universal point or an SUK medium ball point. Schmetzâs color coding is so helpful but fails to distinguish an SUK serger needle from a regular universal point serger needle, so here is a tip to help you distinguish between them. The front groove extends farther up into the color coding on an SUK serger needle. The regular serger needleâs front groove ends below the color coding. Needles are expensive but necessary and the right needle for the job is important. Typically SUK or ball point needles are recommended when sewing or serging knits. I could not verify this works for the Organ brand needles which offers both styles of serger needles but no color coding so I tend to go for Schmetz needles. Happy sewing. #pfjustthetip #punkfrockers #sewover50

#MeMadeMay2023 day 10, this dress is a textured cotton from I believe Joann Fabrics, which was purchased and iced dyed by Jenny Hassler, and made into a Caramiyaâs Dragonfruit dress, which I bought and reassembled into a dress for myself. I adored the original dyeing but it languished unworn in my closet. Just too much bright white for me to be comfortable in. In an attempt to make me reach for it, I attempted an over dye, but was too heavy handed and obscured the beauty of the original ice dye. That said, I still love it, the color is wonderful and in the sunlight the highlights dance, and now I wear it. Nothing ventured nothing gained. #johassler #punkfrockers #pfsewingadjacent

True Bias Riley overalls. Straight size 30 with 1.5 inch total crotch extensions. Heavy cotton twill. Looking forward to wearing these when it eventually warms up. Did all 60+ instructions. It is a lot of work, but worth it. Will reduce bib size and shorten straps next time, but no other changes needed. Just wearing these makes me feel younger. Really pushing my comfort zone with these short overalls, but in a good direction. The Riley 14-20 goes to max waist 59.5â and 61.5â hips. #sewover50plus #rileyoveralls #punkfrockers #pfstretchyourself
CARGO PANTS for the over 50 plus size person! Here…
CARGO PANTS for the over 50 plus size person! Here is my round 3 entry for Pattern Reviewâs 2023 Sewing Bee Round 3. These are the Mitchell Trousers pattern from Closet Core Patterns, with some minor modifications. Along with adding some fun cargo pockets, I added ankle straps and cinching at the bottom hem, to allow me to tame the wide leg and add some wow, giving me 3 looks in one. The fit on these pants is amazing without elastic, while still being comfortable standing, sitting, and moving. 3 pockets are included, slash, cargo, and welt. I also went with belt buckles for accent. It is an intermediate sewing pattern, but worth all the work! Sold in two size ranges with upper size range 14-32 supporting 53â waists and 63â hips. I made a mix of size 26 in front and size 28 in back, shortened leg by 4â, and 1â extensions to front and back crotch. My measurements are ever changing which makes the adjustable waist so perfect. #patternreview #sewover50plus #punkfrockers #pflegcages #closetcorepatterns

I made a needle minder. Needles are not cheap and i keep bouncing between so many projects, which requires frequent needle changes. I saw these online but shipping was $$$. So my dh designed and 3D printed the tray. I made an internal bag filled with fine walnut shells from Harbor Freight. Then I designed and machine embroidered the front, and made a zippered cover for the filled bag, just in case, one layer was not enough. My needle abbreviations are Stretch, Topstitch, Overlock, Universal, Jersey, Jean, Embroidery, and Microtex. I added space for hand sewing needles too. Good bye old fashion tomatoes. Can you tell there has been 3 snow storms in 6 days and I am going a little crazy. Willing to share the 3D tray and embroidery designs if there is any interest. #sewover50 #punkfrockers #curvysewingcollective

I made the Mitchell Trousers by Closet Core. My measurements are 48 waist, 58 hips, and I am 5â4â. I made size 28, with minor extension to crotch curve. I removed 1.5 inches in length. These are so comfortable, standing, sitting, and moving. The pleats in front of pockets add room while seated. The back darts and welt pockets make the back so snazzy. Side straps allow you to snug up or loosen for those time you want some flexibility. Made in medium to heavy weight linen. No gaping at the back while seated. Construction is interesting. #closetcoremitchell #sewover50plus #weedstowildflowers #punkfrockers
